Breaking Down
OT Assessment Fees

We know this step can feel big. You may be wondering whether an assessment is needed, what it involves, or whether the cost is worth it. That is completely understandable.

Let’s start by explaining what makes our assessments so valuable. Our approach is designed to build a comprehensive understanding of your child’s sensory, motor, developmental, and functional profile.

Throughout the assessment, we explore areas such as sensory processing and regulation, attention, postural control, motor coordination, motor planning, balance, body awareness, and participation in play and everyday activities, among others.

An OT assessment also involves much more than the appointment itself. It includes direct time with your child (up to 90 minutes in clinic), parent information gathering, clinical observation, scoring and interpretation of findings, professional planning, and detailed feedback to help guide the next steps.

Making Sense of Your Child’s Needs

An assessment can help provide clarity around your child’s development and everyday experiences by answering questions such as:

✔ Why is my child finding certain things difficult?

✔ What are their strengths?

✔ What supports might help them feel more confident  and settled?

✔ What can we do at home, daycare, kindy, or school?

✔ Would therapy be helpful, or do we simply need clearer strategies?

Assessment Preparation

We want your child’s assessment day to be a positive, stress-free experience. Here is how you can prepare.

How to Prepare

We want your child’s assessment day to be a positive, stress-free experience. Preparing a little in advance helps them feel safe and ready to play. Keep in mind, assessment sessions can run for up to 90 minutes depending on your child’s age, needs, and tolerance for participation.

Talking to your Child

Explain that they are going to visit a special playhub to do some fun activities, games and puzzles. Reassure them that you will be right there with them. Avoid using terms like 'doctor' or 'test', instead, focus on the 'fun gym' and playing with new friends.

What to Bring
  • Comfortable play clothes (and socks)
  • A water bottle and a small snack for later
  • A small comfort toy if needed
  • Any recent reports from school or other specialists
  • Your filled-out parent questionnaire
