Boys waiting their turn in paediatric group therapy session

Paediatric group therapy sessions in Brisbane

AHA Group Sessions

At In Sync Therapy Hub®, we know that some skills are best learned alongside friends. Our group sessions are led by our skilled Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) and designed to bridge the gap between individual therapy and real-world social participation.

Why Choose Group Therapy?

Bridging Individual Therapy & Social Connection

  • Peer Learning: Children feel motivated by seeing their peers try new things.
  • Real-Time Social Practice: Practicing turn-taking or conversation in a 'safe' clinical environment before taking those skills to school or the park.
  • Natural Motivation: Play is more fun when there’s a team involved!

Group therapy is usually most effective when it supports and complements a child’s individual therapy sessions.

How to Join a Group

Expression of Interest

1

Let our admin team or your lead therapist know which group interests you.

2
Compatibility Check

We ensure each child is placed in a group where they will feel comfortable and successfully challenged.

Program Sessions
3

Once the group is confirmed, the fun begins! Your child will attend a block of weekly sessions, led by our skilled AHAs in our specialist sensory gym.

Review & Future Planning
4

After the final session, we provide feedback on your child's progress. We then discuss the next steps, whether that's repeating a theme to master skills or moving on to a new challenge.

Our Group Themes

We run rotating themes throughout the year, each with unique start dates to ensure every child has the opportunity to join at the right time.

Food Explorers

(5–8 years)

Perfect for children who find mealtimes challenging or are hesitant to try new things.

  • The Focus: Building a positive, pressure-free relationship with food.

  • What we do: We explore different textures (crunchy, squishy, sticky) through touch, smell, and play. By normalizing food interaction in a social setting, we help children build the confidence to try new flavors at their own pace.

School Readiness
(4–6 years)

Supporting the big transition to Prep or Kindergarten.

  • The Focus: Preparing the mind and body for the classroom.

  • What we do: We practice the "hidden" skills of school, like sitting and listening, following multi-step instructions, and managing personal belongings. We also work on the fine motor strength needed for holding pencils and opening lunchboxes.

Siblings Play Together
(6–10 years)

A unique group designed to strengthen the bond between siblings in a supportive environment.

  • The Focus: Co-regulation and cooperative play.

  • What we do: We use play-based activities to practice sharing, negotiating, and resolving conflicts. It’s a low-pressure space for families to connect and celebrate each other's unique strengths.

Social Board Games
(10+ years)

Moving beyond the game to the social "rules" that make play work.

  • The Focus:Strategy, sportsmanship, and social cues.

  • What we do: While playing complex games, we practice healthy responses to winning and losing, problem-solving, and reading the subtle social cues of peers. It’s about building friendships through shared interests.

Restaurant Role Play
(10+ years)

Functional life skills for navigating the community.

  • The Focus:Confidence in public social interactions.

  • What we do: We practice the "unwritten rules" of dining out, ordering food, managing volume, waiting patiently, and using manners. By taking on roles like customer, waiter or chef, children learn to navigate social expectations.

Let’s Go To A Picnic
(10+ years)

The ultimate community participation group.

  • The Focus: Planning, safety, and outdoor social skills.

  • What we do: We work as a team to plan, prepare, and pack a real picnic. We cover outdoor safety, food hygiene, and group conversation. The session culminates in a real-world picnic outing to a local park to put all our new skills into action.
